Going to the short-listed cities of the 1st Guangzhou Award: Medellin, Colombia
On April 10, the Guangzhou Award delegation visited Medellin, Colombia and conducted a field study on the “Medellin Digital” — a short-listed initiative of the 1st Guangzhou Award. The delegation had in-depth talks with the project group on the process and international promotion of the initiative.
The project group introduced the plan and process of “Medellin Digital” in detail and would like to promote their successful practice worldwide on the platform of Guangzhou Award. Meanwhile, the project group said they will actively participate in the 2nd Guangzhou Award.
The “Medellin Digital” project is a great achievement to the city in the field of Internet connectivity, with the aim of making ICT a common tool for development and social change among the citizens of Medellin. The project was initiated in 2007, focusing on the application and popularity of Internet in education, culture, entrepreneurship and management. To date, over 60 percent of the city’s population is regular users of Internet, 15 percent higher than the national average.
