Public Participation and Urban Development Innovation Forum achieves great success
The Public Participation and Urban Development Innovation Forum, a sub-event of 2015 (the tenth) Conference on Urban Development and Planning, was held successfully in Baiyun International Convention Center on July 23. It is the first joint-activity organized by Guangzhou Institute for Urban Innovation (GIUI) and School of Government, Sun Yat-sen University.
With Professor He Yanling from Sun Yat-sen University as the moderator, this forum had five panel members, namely Mr. Chen Rugui, Executive Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, Mr. Qiu Baoxing, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the 2nd Guangzhou Award, Mr. Li Jiangtao, Vice President of GIUI, Mr. Nicholas You, Adviser to the Guangzhou Award, and Mr. Xiao Bin, Dean of the School of Government, Sun Yat-sen University.
Over 200 people attended the forum, including the president, vice presidents and members of GIUI, delegates from local authorities, representatives from the consulates in Guangzhou and experts from academic institutions at home and abroad.
The forum mainly focused on public participation and urban development innovation. The panel members discussed the status quo and problems of public participation in cities around the world, brought in some excellent initiatives of the Guangzhou Award and Guangzhou’s experience in this regard as examples, exchanged ideas on the trend of public participation and urban development innovation and proposed suggestions for Guangzhou to explore a new mode of public participation in urban governance.
