Early Bird Deadline Approaching: the 6th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation
The 6th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (Guangzhou Award) has been open for applications from all cities and local governments around the world since this February. Apply before the early-bird deadline (July 31st, 2023) to receive feedback and advice on improving your submissions!
The Guangzhou Award recognizes innovation in improving social, economic, and environmental sustainability and good urban governance in cities and regions and, in so doing, to advance the prosperity and quality of life of their citizens, while also documenting, disseminating, and analyzing the local implementation of global agendas, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda (NUA).
Co-sponsored by the City of Guangzhou, the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), and the World Association of the Major Metropolises (Metropolis) since 2012, this award has been held successfully for five cycles and attracted over 1,300 initiatives from 556 cities of over 96 countries and regions worldwide.
Deadline
The early bird deadline is 23:59, July 31st, 2023 (Beijing Time).

The final deadline for submission is 23:59 August 31st, 2023 (Beijing time).

Eligibility Criteria
The Guangzhou Award welcomes applications from all city and regional governments worldwide. We encourage submissions of ongoing or recently completed initiatives, including those implemented in collaboration with private and civil society partners. The thematic areas for submissions include, but are not limited to:
- social inclusion and shared prosperity
- environmental protection and resilience
- public services and infrastructure
- urban heritage and cultural preservation
- smart cities and technology governance
