Deputy Secretary General Mr. Gong Haijie of Guangzhou Municipal Government and Deputy Secretary General Ms. Monica Zimmermann of ICLEI held a discussion session while they were both attending the Eco Forum Global Annual Conference, Guiyang 2015. Gong said he appreciated the support and concern shown by ICLEI towards Guangzhou’s sustainable development. He hoped that knowledge and experiences from other advanced cities could be brought in to help Guangzhou tackle its urban problems such as waste water treatment and traffic congestion. Zimmermann thought highly of Guangzhou’s social and economic development in the past few years, expressing her willingness to initiate knowledge-sharing with Guangzhou and to lead the bilateral relationships into an in-depth one. Both parties believed joint efforts should be made in conducting projects within the framework of Memorandum of Understanding between ICLEI and Guangzhou Institute for Urban Innovation (GIUI). Also attending the session were officials from the Development and Reform Commission and Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government, as well as representatives from GIUI.
