Innovative ideas and creative thinking kept popping up on the second day of the "One Award, One Conference and One Festival", as more events were held in Guangzhou on Dec 6.

The day's full schedule featured the Guangzhou International Urban Innovation Seminar, the 2016 Guangzhou -- Hong Kong -- Macao -- Taiwan Science and Technology Innovation Forum and Project Matchmaking, International Engineers' Forum: Craftsmanship and Innovation, Welcome Cocktail and the Opening Ceremony of 2016 Guangzhou International Innovation Festival.

Zhou Yawei, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangzhou Committee, gave an address at the Welcome Cocktail event. "Innovation is the motivational force to drive urban development and lies in the pursuit of all cities around the world," Zhou said. "The city of Guangzhou, an active advocate, has been committed to be a Strategies-Hub-type Network City, with the aim of being the center of global exchanges and resource allocation."

"The Guangzhou International Urban Innovation Seminar presented a forum for sharing urban innovation ideas and excellent practices, in which 15 shortlisted cities contributed their wisdom in the field," said Liu Baochun, director-general of Guangzhou's Foreign Affairs Office.

Mpho Parks Tau, President of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), said, "The 15 cities on the shortlist serve as cases in point that every city can take advantage of its creativity and imagination to meet challenges coming out in the course of urban development."
