Guangzhou increases global exposure at 12th Metropolis World Congress
Guangzhou, capital city of South China's Guangdong province, enhanced its global exposure at the 12th Metropolis World Congress, held in Montreal, Canada, from June 19 to 22.
On the second day of the Congress, June 20, Guangzhou held a workshop "Cities in Action: Urban Innovation and the Local Implementation of the Global Agendas", which discussed hot topics among cities around the world as well as the tendency of urban innovation.
Hosted by Mr. Liu Baochun, Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government and Regional Secretary for Metropolis Asia Pacific, the workshop is a response to the goals and targets of global agendas including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda.

Distinguished guests including Mr. Song Jingwu, Vice President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Mr. Peng Jingtao, Chinese Consul-General in Montreal, and Ms. Li Xiaomian, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress, made their contributions.
At the workshop, heavyweights gathered to discuss responsibilities of local governments in carrying out global agendas, including Mr. Michael Muller, Mayor of Berlin and Co-president of Metropolis, Ms. Tri Rismaharini, Mayor of Surabaya, Mr. George Ferguson, former mayor of Bristol, Mr. Benoit Perilleux, Chief Planner of Brussels Capital Region, Ms. Maria Luisa, Deputy Director for Knowledge Management and ACI Medellin ,and Mr. Neal Peirce, Editor-in-Chief of Citiscope.
Guangzhou, host city of Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation, organizes a workshop – Cities in Action: Urban Innovation and the Local Implementation of the Global Agendas in Montreal, Canada, on June 20.
More than 120 attendees from member cities of Metropolis, international organizations, experts and media outlets joined the workshop.
During the Congress, Guangzhou also held an exhibition themed on urban innovation, showcasing Guangzhou's achievements on urban construction and development as well as excellent cases from the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation.
