Guangzhou delegation seeks cooperation in Europe
A Guangzhou delegation led by Mr. Tu Hongzhe, the Vice Counsel of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Guangzhou Municipal Government, wrapped up an eight-day visit in Spain and Portugal from Nov 3 to 10.
During the visit to Barcelona, Spain, Mr. Tu attended the Political Panel meeting for the selection of new Secretary General of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) on behalf of Co-President of UCLG and Guangzhou Mayor Mr. Wen Guohui.
The delegation also exchanged views and compared notes on next years' cooperation and ways to increase submission for the 2018 Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation with Mr. Josep Roig, current UCLG Secretary-General.
The delegation from Guangzhou holds a discussion with the government of Valencia, Spain.
The delegation from Guangzhou met with Valencia City Council, including Mr. Enric Roig Arranz, Coordinator of the Sustainable Economic Development Area, and officials from Economic Promotion, Internationalization and Tourism Service and Sports Service, to enhance cooperation on culture, education, sports and urban innovation between the two cities.
They also exchanged views on people-to-people, culture and education cooperation with the Confucius Institute of the University of Valencia.
During their visit to Lisbon, Portugal, the delegation visited the Observatory for China (OC) and discussed how Guangzhou People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and OC can enhance cooperation based on the MOU signed two years ago, and how the two associations can work to organize cultural and art activities.
The delegation from Guangzhou discussed the possibility of establishing friendly city tie between Guangzhou and Lisbon with the International Relations Department of the city council of the Portuguese capital.
