The 14th Metropolis World Congress & Brussels Urban Summit 2023 was held in Brussels, Belgium, from June 12 to 15. Guangzhou was re-elected as the co-president of the World Association of the Major Metropolises (Metropolis) at the General Assembly of Members and continues to be in charge of the Association's Asia and Pacific Office.

Zhang Yajie, Vice Chairman of Guangzhou Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a delegation to the Congress and addressed the Assembly, noting that Guangzhou has been able to strengthen cooperation with global metropolises, share insight into sustainable development and jointly improve the capacity of urban governance since the city joined Metropolis 30 years ago.

She added that Guangzhou has successfully held five cycles of the Guangzhou Award, which has collected 1,361 outstanding urban innovation initiatives from 556 cities in 96 countries and regions, providing a useful reference for global cities. In the future, Guangzhou will fulfill in good faith its obligations as the co-president and the Asia and Pacific Office of Metropolis, leverage the influence of the international platforms, including the Global Mayors' Forum and the Guangzhou Award, promote practical exchanges and cooperation on sustainable development and urban governance innovation among global cities, and contribute urban wisdom to a community of shared future for humanity.

The 6th Guangzhou Award is now calling for participation from all cities and local governments worldwide with ongoing or recently completed initiatives, including those implemented in collaboration with private and civil society partners. By advocating exchanges and mutual learning, we hope to bring together urban synergy for sustainable development.
